Our Mission
  • COMMUNICATE  by sharing information across school library associations through virtual networks, social media and face-to-face meetings to inform and engage members of NESLA and the state associations.
  • CONNECT by networking with school library and education leaders, strengthening connections with AASL, and connecting with legislators, Departments of Education, and other school library and technology associations.
  • CONSULT by providing training in leadership, legislative initiatives, securing external funding, and mentoring new school librarians
  • COLLABORATE by partnering with library, educational associations, and social justice organizations within and outside the New England region, conduct regional think tanks, and leverage purchasing power for school librarians.

NESLA (New England School Library Association) is now accepting applications for the 2023-24 School Year Carolyn Markuson School Library Innovation Grant.
School librarians in the New England States are invited to apply.

Named in honor of the late Carolyn Markuson, a longtime NESLA member, and a mentor and inspiration for school librarians throughout the region, the Carolyn Markuson Innovation Grant was established by NESLA to encourage the development of innovative projects in K-12 schools by School Librarians in the New England region.

The 2022-23 Grant was awarded to Ariel Dagan, Library Media Specialist at Tri County Regional Vocational Technical High School, Franklin, Massachusetts. The Grant enabled Ariel to establish an interactive unit designed to provide students with a critical look at their use of mobile cellular devises, and an understanding of the multiple factors that may play a role in determining whether those device use habits are a sign of addictive behavior.
