​The NESLA Advocacy Alliance plans, develops, and promotes school library advocacy initiatives for NESLA.   The Alliance is also charged to ensure that NESLA is positioned to play an effective role in helping to develop policy to promote the advancement and improvement of school library services throughout the region.
The Advocacy Alliance will regularly update the Executive Committee, Board, and membership on the following and recommend positions and/or action when appropriate:
  • advocacy related interests
  • school library related policy discussions and decisions
  • state and federal policies and legislation of interest
  • standards initiatives
  • legal decisions falling within NESLA’s areas of interest.
The Advocacy Alliance will also:
  • provide association-wide coordination and response on issues of importance and concern to NESLA.
  • develop resources, networks of school library advocates, and materials to educate and inform policymakers, decision-makers and learning communities about the importance of role the school librarian and the school library program.
  • promote the awareness of school library programs through internal and external communication and publications to make to make school librarians and school libraries more visible to the public and various stakeholders.
  • develop a standard presentation featuring importance of school librarians and exemplary library programs that can be shared at stakeholder meetings.
  • identify school librarians in the state organizations to present at state or regional school administrator conferences and develop a state-level school leader collaborative.
  • promote collaboration between and among different types of libraries,  library and education associations to advance school library-related initiatives.
  • promote national library campaigns and advocacy issues in the region.
